Who needs a Brain anyway?
This week during the classes I have been ending them with a Heart Math Meditation. This is a heart-focused breathing meditation that can help you quickly change from feeling stressed to feeling calm. It uses breathing techniques to bring about coherence – the alignment of your physical, mental and emotional systems to work in sync. Talking about the brain…………….
Who Needs a Brain Anyway? – Jellyfish
According to some scientists, Jellyfish have survived for over 500 million years despite their complete lack of a brain. They also have no heart, bones or blood. Don’t have it, don’t need it, don’t desire it.

It really can be that simple. It has worked for jellyfish who, according to these fossil records discovered by scientists, were around even before dinosaurs.

You know what complicates things? The brain. Our brain really messes up the don’t need it, don’t desire it thing. In fact, I can almost guarantee that not a single jellyfish has ever needed to change its relationship with anything

We might not be jellyfish, and we do have a brain. But, still, we can get to the don’t have it, don’t need it, don’t desire it place in our lives that isn’t healthy for us – mentally, physically, or emotionally.

Granted, it won’t be as simple as it is for a jellyfish, but there are perks to being a human. I mean that same brain is what gives us the capacity to love, to create, to feel, to think, to form friendships, and so much more.

With all the things our brain can do without any input from us, maybe it’s time we help it bring us the things we truly desire as well.

Problem solving
Have you ever explored the way you solve problems?

We think of solving problems as such a negative thing. It doesn’t have to be. Even when facing problems, we can move away from pain and towards pleasure.

What happens when a problem shows up? First, disbelief that there is a problem. Then the painful questioning: “Why can’t I sort this out? Why is this continuing to be a problem? Why is this happening to me?”

Those questions energise the pain of the problem, making it impossible for us to get to a happy place with the opportunity the problem presents. How can we change our response and enjoy the challenge?

My default is always journaling. I get out all my thoughts on paper – everything from “it shouldn’t be like this” to “I wish it was like this instead.” I start with the most painful thought and try to understand what’s creating suffering for me around the problem.
• Is this really true?
• Where is it coming from?
• How does it make me feel?

Most times I discover it’s not the problem that’s the issue; it’s how I feel about it and the stories I have been telling myself about how I feel foolish that I haven’t solved it out or I feel regret for what may have caused the problem, etc.

Once I move away from the pain of a problem, I am able to connect with the positive feelings that will help me solve it. How do you work through problems?
Happy Easter
